MIT Bechtel Hall - Distance Learning System
MIT’s Bechtel hall is only one third of a mile away from the master control hub in building 9, but it can deliver learning sessions to Universities from Singapore to England. The system uses fiber-optic cables which carry all audio and video signals to centralized codecs, accommodating ISDN connectivity. The system is a model of complexity made easy for the end user.
Despite the uniqueness of this distance learning system, the real accomplishment was creating a standardized conceptual framework for distance learning at MIT. This standardization will allow for continuous expansion campus wide.
