Compact multi-site system makes telepresence more affordable.
EATONTOWN, NJ, September 11, 2007 — Telepresence, the latest concept in video conferencing and data collaboration, gives business professionals in multiple locations the ability to meet face-to-face in a completely immersive environment. Typically, telepresence systems are expensive and time-consuming to build, limiting their potential for business customers. York Telecom, a leading visual communications services and solutions provider, has introduced Intelli-Presence™, a compact, customizable, cost-effective telepresence system.
In its basic configuration, Intelli-Presence requires minimal setup time, and can virtually be used “right out of the box.” The system consists of a dual-screen videoconferencing system comprised of two high-definition (HD) cameras, two HD videoconferencing encoder/decoders (codecs), and two large HD LCD screens. Its customized, intuitive touch panel control system is designed to maximize ease of use. A fully integrated audio system with microphones, mixer, and amplifiers completes the package. With Intelli-Presence, it is possible to hold conferences with up to three locations without involving a bridge.
A significant advantage of Intelli-Presence lies in its vendor neutrality, allowing York Telecom’s engineers to integrate components and screens from several manufacturers to create a custom implementation. This provides a solution for customers who have contracts or relationships with specific manufacturers, and who demand a standard system for all of their telepresence rooms. It also allows for variability in IP network bandwidth, because Intelli-Presence can be engineered to work with the customer’s existing network availability and preferences.

The VNOC is critical for Intelli-Presence implementations with more than three sites, as it provides the bridging services necessary to support multi-site conferencing.
